ISO 6346 is the international standard for the coding, identification, and marking of intermodal shipping containers. It consists of a 4-letter owner code, category identifier, 6-digit serial, and a check digit.

The owner code is the first four characters of an ISO 6346 container number — three letters identifying the company plus "U" for freight containers, "J" for detachable freight container-related equipment, or "Z" for trailers. Our OCR returns the owner code as a dedicated field to enable automated owner lookup.

Each scan returns one container number. For yard photos with several containers, crop or photograph each number separately for the most reliable result.
